Excerpt:

“Are you sure I don’t owe you anything?” Her voice is distant, so I exit the office to find her running her fingers under the front of her hood and her tongue pushing inside her cheek.

“You checking my work?”

She flips around, seemingly startled by me, and lets out a nervous laugh as her fingers hook under the slim gap beneath the hood.

“I wouldn’t know what I was looking at. I can’t even open the hood.” She lifts a shoulder as her hands fall to her sides.

“Let me show you.”

I step toward her, and she doesn’t move as the distance between us grows tighter. Our eyes meet as my shoe taps against hers, and I lean to her left and feel under the hood for the release latch. The heavy metal pops with the release, and Saylor sucks in a tiny breath.

I turn into her, and our faces are suddenly only a few inches apart. My gaze dips to her mouth just as she licks her lips. This is dangerous territory, which is probably the reason I like it so much. Temptation has always found me, and I’m not always great at saying no.

My eyes move back to hers, and her lashes seem heavy. Her breath is noticeably slow.

“You just need to know the right spot.” Her eyes widen a hint at my words, and her lip ticks up on one side.

I lean into her more, my chest brushing against hers as I pull the hood up behind her.

“Do you want to see what I did?” I nod behind her toward the open engine bay, but she bites her lip and shakes her head.

“Not really,” she admits.

“Are you sure?” I think we both know I’m no longer talking about looking at her car.

She lifts her chin and nods.

“Positive.”

I let the hood slam shut only a few inches behind her, and she jumps at the harsh clank of metal on metal, her hands flattening on my chest to steady her balance.

“I’ve got you,” I say, my lips grazing against her earlobe.

Her hands drag to the center of my chest, and her fingers wrap around the gray, silk tie hanging loose around my neck. My palms slide up her bare thighs to her hips, and I lift her up on her hood. She undoes my tie, then drags it from my collar while gathering it into a ball that she clutches against her chest. I would love to see those wrists tied up with it sometime.

“Lie back,” I say, walking my fingertips up her stomach to the center of her chest. I coax her body flat atop her hood, and her head rests against the windshield. Her hands fidget with my tie as she bites her lower lip, the faint smirk practically daring me to take things further.

I lean over her body and run my thumb along her cheek. She turns into my touch, her lips parting with a slight breath that tickles my wrist as her eyes flutter shut. I pull the clip from her hair and let the waves fall along the glass and onto her shoulders before setting it to the side.

“I like it when your hair is wild and messy,” I say as she blinks her eyes open on mine.

Her lips curve into a bashful smile that pushes into her cheeks. They rush with color, a soft pink that mimics the sun-kissed color on her nose. I like it when she’s embarrassed, too, but I’ll save telling her that for next time.

There will be a next time.

BLURB:

Rowan Anderson was always my fantasy, until suddenly . . . he was intimately real.

My relationship with the Anderson boys would always be doomed by complications.

They were rich, and their father…was my mother’s boss. Her hard work for them paid for my private school education, yet we barely got by.

Caleb, the youngest brother, was my first everything.

But it was Rowan, the older brother, who I saw first.

Last.

Always.

It was one slip in judgement, one night of giving in to temptation, and suddenly I was buried in the Anderson family’s bitterness, secrets and lies. The more I learned, the more I fell. And soon, I was in too deep.

Getting hurt is inevitable, but when Rowan looks at me, I just don’t care.

The question is, does he see Saylor Kelly, his little brother’s ex, or does he see the woman I’m becoming? Or maybe this is all just pretend.
