Birdie laughed. “Well, then I guess we should at least be able to tell them that we did something, right? Or they’ll never let us live it down.” She stepped forward, closing the gap between us. I felt her rise onto her tiptoes as she pulled my face down toward hers and brushed a kiss onto my cheek.
Instinctively, I wrapped my arm around her waist before she could pull away, lifting her off the ground. We both paused; in the darkness, we could barely make out each other’s features, but I could feel her gaze, our faces a hair’s breadth away from each other.
“Is that all you want?” I asked.
I felt her head move ever so slightly side to side. “No,” she answered, her voice barely audible.
I swept my free arm under her ass, tucking her legs around my waist as I hoisted her higher. Her face caught the light, and I could see her studying me, her eyes bright.
“I have a rule,” I murmured.
“What’s that?” she breathed.
“I need an enthusiastic yes before I go any further. Not just a soft whisper of a yes.” My eyes had finally adjusted to the darkness, and I could see the side of her mouth quirk up.
“Kiss me,” she said, her voice louder than before. She grabbed the back of my head and brought her mouth over mine, linking our lips together.
