They wanted to bury me in a cold dark place where the sins of my past would rest with my wretched bones—deep in the earth I’d once scorched where my very existence would be forgotten and the generations to come would only whisper about my deeds to scare small fae children into behaving. I didn’t resent them for their feelings toward me because they were right . . . I deserved their wrath and so much more.
